After months of speculation, a decision was made by organizers to merge the European Freeride World Tour, the North American Freesking World Tour and The North Face Masters of Snowboarding into one, unified global championship series. The new world tour will be named the “Swatch Freeride World Tour by The North Face,” bringing into the same circuit not just the dedicated organizations from the two continents but also the two brands, Swatch and The North Face. Each one of the six stops of the circuit will include freeskiing and snowboarding, with women competing at five of the six stops. The confirmed tour locations are: Revelstoke in Canada (Jan. 7-12, 2013), Chamonix in France (Jan. 26 – Feb. 1, 2013), Kirkwood in California (Feb. 27 – March 3), Fieberbrunn in Austria (March 9 – 15), and Verbier in Switzerland (March 23-31). Another location for stop 5, before the Would Tour finals in Verbier, is to be confirmed. About 40 Freeride World Qualifier (FWQ) competitions will take place between now and then to give athletes a chance to earn a place on next year’s tour. The first two stops of the qualifier series are set to take place in New Zealand and Chile in August 2012.
