Faster and smoother cross-country running
Ultra running is becoming more and more popular. Inov-8, British manufacturer of natural running shoes, pays tribute to this trend with a new running shoe that is specifically designed for cross-country. The Race Ultra 290 is a high-end shoe for long trail runs, equipped with all the specific features that characterize Inov-8’s lightweight shoes. Therefore, it is no surprise that this type of running shoe also starts to appear on other running courses…
The Race Ultra 290 is equipped with a newly designed profile offering maximum grip cross-country, without being as rough as the Roclite model’s – but sufficient for ultra runners as they rarely enter rocky terrain. For the shoe’s profile three types of rubber are combined: a hard Tri-C rubber for the Trailroc sole and two softer rubbers for the outer parts.
The 8mm heel-to-toe drop provides great dampening, which is especially helpful when running on dirt tracks for a longer time, reducing strain on the Achilles and calves. However, the Race Ultra 290 still manages to maintain an excellent running feel with great flexibility and comfortable stability.
Furthermore, Inov-8’s new ultra running shoe is equipped with smart details for operating in demanding conditions. The X-Static footbed offers great comfort and an optional, specifically designed gaiter can be attached with a single clip.
Overall, the Inov-8 Race Ultra 290 not only earns itself the ISPO AWARD 2014 in the “Footwear” category but also successfully provides for ultra runners aiming for new goals in the cross-country. The trail shoe is available in a men’s and women’s model (the latter differs in color and is equipped with a slightly narrower heel cup).
