Sport 2000: outdoor sales slightly up; soccer is the champion

In the first half of 2014, the German section of Sport 2000 has booked an increase in the outdoor category by 3.2 percent compared with the first six months of the previous year. Hardgoods were up by 8 percent , footwear by 6 percent. Ongoing difficulties were registered in apparel: The category was flat. However, the real problem were jackets, which were down by 9 percent, while all other softgoods jumped by 8 percent. Jackets account for some 42 percent of sales of apparel within the retailer network. The best-selling products were not outdoor-related though: The German soccer replica shirt, the official football Brazuca and the Nike Free running footwear have been the best selling products this year so far. It is amazing that these three items have generated no less than 8.1 percent of the entire group’s sales.
