The Austrian buying group Sport 2000 has opened a so-called sports brands outlet in Graz, the second largest city in the country. On 1,500 square meters, the store offers about 30,000 items from some 50 brands at up to 70 percent off recommended retail prices. It is the second store of its type after the group launched another one in the capital Vienna two years ago. The special character of this retail concept is that the outlets are operated by the buying group’s headquarters through a subsidiary, but that it also involves affiliated members. These retailers are entitled to supply the outlets with their own unsold merchandise; more than 100 retailers participate in the initiative. Sport 2000 says that it does not intend to expand the format since demand is basically satisfied at present.
