GoPro, the U.S. specialty brand of sports cameras, is apparently moving into a new market segment – drones. The Wall Street Journal reports that it wants to present a collection of multi-propeller drones by the end of next year. It seems as if the drones will be designed for “regular” consumers who should be able to purchase the products at an affordable price. WSJ says a drone may cost between $500 and $1,000 at retail prices. Market observers believe that GoPro, which went public last spring, needs to open up other product category after it has seen growing competition in its core business from larger companies such as Sony. This year, GoPro has sold 2.4 million cameras, up by 15 percent on a year-to-date basis. Sales last year were $624 million.
