Intersport International Corporation (IIC) is moving ahead with developing specialty retail formats. Its latest effort is the Run&Fit banner which has premiered at Intersport Russia in St. Petersburg. The initiative is intended to further strengthen the presence of the banner in shopping malls and downtown areas.
The new Run&Fit format implemented by Intersport Russia is said to be a role model which also small and medium-sized retailers can apply to sharpen their profile as specialty shops. For the next three years, IIC would like to see specialty stores – not only for running and fitness, but also for teamsports and outdoor, in some 15 countries where IIC operates. The plan is to have some 50 outlets of this type by 2019.
For the Russian market, Intersport intends to open at least ten Run & Fit stores in St. Petersburg and Moscow. The pilot shop in St. Petersburg has a selling surface of 250 square meters.
