Textilwirtschaft, the publication for the German apparel trade, reports that Zalando is not going to hold its Bread & Butter fashion show next spring, but confirmed that there will be a summer show later on in 2016. The online footwear, fashion and sporting goods retailer bought the Berlin show out of insolvency earlier this year.
The reason for the decision is wholly unrelated to the apparel trade in the country. Apparently, the local Berlin government might need the halls at the former Tempelhof airport to house the growing number of refugees from the Middle East and Africa.
Zalando apparently feels that a fun-driven fashion show would be inappropriate under the current circumstances. Instead, the retailer’s management is considering a charity event to benefit the troubled people coming into Germany.
