No less than 300 industry professionals came together in Sheffield (#TheOutdoorCity), England, from Oct. 14-15, to attend the third edition of the European Outdoor Summit, this time hosted by the British Outdoor Industries Association (OIA).
Main sponsors of the event were Berghaus, ISPO and W.L. Gore & Associates. The summit was attended by industry representatives from 20 European countries as well as the U.S., China and Canada. They represented brands, retailers and national federations alike.
Highlights of the two days, whose agenda was packed with inspiring workshops, panel debates and other events, were the speeches by the host, OIA chief executive Andrew Denton and Andy Rubin, chairman of Pentland brands, as well as experts who analyzed the importance of outdoor activities and the related industry to public health.
Mental health as important as physical health
Nick Clegg, former U.K. Deputy Prime Minister and Sheffield’s representative in the House of Commons, emphasized in his closing speech the impact of outdoor activities on the mental health of an entire nation and informed on the government’s activities in the sector.
We had some truly inspirational speakers who provided fantastic insight for delegates, while the workshops and seminars offered excellent learning opportunities for all.”
Andrew Denton, CEO, Outdoor Industries Association
For ISPO as one of the EOS Gold Sponsors, supporting the event paid off – as anticipated by Tobias Gröber, executive director business unit consumer goods at Messe München, shortly before the summit: “We have been an established partner of this event ever since the first European Outdoor Forum took place in France. The decision-makers within the international outdoor industry come together there, and we at the ISPO team can benefit from this gathering and also contribute towards it.” Gröber confirmed after the EOS that the conference fully met the high expectations.
From Britain to Spain
After the match is before the match. At the end of the Sheffield event, it was announced that next year’s European Outdoor Summit will be held in Barcelona, Spain. It will be organized by Afydad, the federation of Spanish sporting goods manufacturers.
